The Probus Club of East Grinstead & District

Meetings & Events

The Club meets on the third Tuesday of each month. The venue for meetings is the East Grinstead Rugby Football Club, The Gearon Pavilion, Saint Hill Road, East Grinstead RH19 4JU, where members gather at 10.00am for a chat and coffee, conduct routine Club business, followed by a guest speaker and questions. At around midday members return to the bar for an optional drink and bar lunch. Alternative arrangements are put in place during times of emergencies such as the Covid 19 pandemic, to allow virtual meetings to take place on line.

Visits to varied and fascinating places are enjoyed in the company of wives, partners and friends during the year. Such day trips include museums, stately homes, gardens, canal and heritage railway outings. These may be by coach, train or members’ own transport. Country walks of around four miles are organised each month during the Spring, Summer, and Autumn, ending with a pub lunch.

The Club organises two short holidays each year, one normally to mainland Europe and one in the UK. Recent destinations have included Valkenberg in Holland, Luxembourg, Amsterdam including a Zuider Zee cruise, plus UK holidays to Torquay, Chester and Glasgow, the latter with an evening at the Edinburgh Tattoo. All holidays aim to have a sense of adventure and prove to be very popular. They can be by coach, train or air and are planned such that people with restricted mobility can participate as much as possible. The holidays represent a tremendous opportunity for members and partners to socialise over an extended period.

The members enjoy a Spring and Autumn lunch together. The highlight of the year is the Christmas Lunch when in excess of 120 members with wives, partners and guests gathering to celebrate the season and recall the year’s achievements.
